Repertory Play Poor Choice
The Brisbane Repertory Theatre Society made an ambitious choice when it selected August Strinberg's "The Father" for presentation in the Albert Hall last night.
Few plays depend so much on the impact of character. Laura, Daphne Roemermann, has been planning for years the destruction of her husband (Mervyn Eadie).
Other characters, a mother, an aged nurse, one with something of a religious mania, a daughter - subject of paternal doubt - are strictly "support".
More than the virtue of enthusiasm is requisite to tackle such a piece, and last night's exhibit was bankrupt of acting essentials.
