John Hopkins’ This Story of Yours was directed by Jennifer Blocksidge.
An English play, its theme is police violence and the climactic scene involves a police officer beating to death a suspect brought in for questioning. After attending opening night, the Queensland Commissioner of Police cancelled the Queensland Police Academy’s group booking despite Blocksidge’s letter to him explaining why this play might raise important issues for the cadets. The cadets weren’t the only ones to stay away – it was a box office disaster, described by Blocksidge as “definitely a 10 per center”.[i]
