The Matilda Women by Sue Rider
Bicentennial funding enabled a professional production of The Matilda Women, based on the stories of early Queensland women, written and directed by Sue Rider, with actors Justine Anderson, Sharonlee Martin, Christen O’Leary, Rosemary Traynor and music director Anne Roylance.
In 1986, Rider had created a similar piece with the Adelaide Theatre Guild for the Adelaide Fringe Festival called Ring the Bell Softly, There’s Crepe on the Door on early South Australian women. It had been such a success that Artistic Director Jim Vilé asked her to do a Queensland version.
Sue Rider was honoured with a Matilda Award for her creation and direction of La Boite’s The Matilda Women.
